In order to begin EDDOC 2002 and determine your Career Potential and Learning Style, you will choose:

Option 1:  Career & Learning Style Assessment

Under the Option 1:  Career & Learning Style Assessment, you will input data in 3 tables, each appearing on successive web pages.  These tables are as follows:

A.  Things and People:  You will have a list of 9 descriptions of likes and dislikes pertaining to your work with people and things.  Underneath the tables you will find another table for your entries.  You will enter the number corresponding to the statement that you most prefer in the left-most box.  You will continue to fill in the boxes from left to right with the number corresponding to each statement you choose.  Enter your most preferred to the left and your least preferred to the right, and anything in between.  No duplicates are allowed and every box must be filled, so use each statement one time only.  When you have finished filling in the boxes, click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen.  If at any time you wish to clear all the boxes and begin again, click "reset."

B.  Data and Ideas:  Once you have submitted your entries for "Things and People," you will get another table of descriptions along with a table for you to enter your data.  This time the descriptions pertain to your work with data and ideas.  You will fill this table out the same way as before with your most preferred choice to the left, your least preferred choice to the right, and everything in between.  Again, fill all of the boxes using no duplicates.  Click "Submit" when you are finished.

C.  Preferred Learning Assessment:  The last table will have a list of 12 descriptions pertaining to your learning style.  Fill in the boxes the same as before.  Click "Submit" when you are finished.

Your Results

After you have submitted the third and final table, you will get your final results.  The output from "Things and People" and "Data and Ideas" will be displayed on the Career Map with the coordinates determined from your inputs.  Find the occupational type that your mapped location is closest to, and read the corresponding description to discover more about what it means for you.

Below this, there will be ten to fifteen career choices that align with your preferences.  The top part will be in green to indicate that these careers are a "go" for you.  The second part will be in yellow to indicate that these careers are possible for you, and the last part will be in red indicating that these careers would be the worst choices for you.

And finally, you will see four, consecutive bar graphs that will depict your learning style.  Compare your results with those of the other professionals listed.  This will give you an idea of where you stand in reference to a possible career.  You will also want to see where your learning strengths and weaknesses are.  For example, if you are 95% Connected Vision but only 37% Rearing, you will be able to take advantage of your strength in learning by vision, but you might also need to improve your reading skills.

*Note* -- If the bar representing you in any of the four graphs is either below 7% or above 93%, this may be an indicator that you have a learning disability.  Ask Dr. James Gregory, Associate Dean to the College of Engineering, for more details.
